The Houston Parks Department recently received the largest donation in the system’s history to help complete the Bayou Greenways 2020 project. The generous donation was made by Houstonian businessman Rich Kinder and his wife Nancy.

Rich is the chairman and CEO of Houston energy company, Kinder Morgan Inc. The couple put forth the contribution through their Kinder Foundation which is an organization that focuses on Houston’s green spaces, education, and quality of life.

The aforementioned Bayou Greenways 2020 project is a development that will create 1,500 acres of new parks, connect over 150 miles of trails, further developing and enhancing Houston’s natural areas. The couple believes the project is going to benefit the entire city because, as Nancy Kinder said, “creating…greenspace is one of the most important investments we can make in improving the quality of life for all Houstonians.”

According to Forbes Magazine, the Kinder family is known to be the richest couple living in the city of Houston. However, according to many Houstonians they are also the most generous couple in Houston!
