Open the Door of Learning with Literacy Advance of Houston

Literacy Advance of Houston
is a non-profit organization that has been helping adults speak, read, and write in English for 50 years.  It is the largest and oldest organization in the Houston area that is dedicated to literacy and is 100% operated by volunteers.

Whether you would like to help occasionally or regularly, Literary Advance of Houston has a place for you.  Lend a hand as tutor, an event organizer, lead student orientations, perform administrative duties or simply help by spreading awareness about the importance and the literacy need throughout the Houston area.

Their Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs always needed tutors! Check the volunteer and tutor needs pages each month for a new opportunity to make a difference in not just one person’s life, but their families’ and our entire Houston community.

The confidence, social skills, and job opportunities that you are helping someone gain is truly priceless. You don’t have to have any experience as a teacher or speak a foreign language; all you need is patience, respect and a huge desire to be a major force in helping someone else accomplish their dreams.
