Jon Calvo began his weight loss journey multiple times over the years. He always had the motivation to start, but could never see his goals all the way through and fell off the wagon after a little while.
Standing only 5’5 feet tall at the age of 21 and weighing in at 330 pounds, Jon realized it was time to follow through and accomplish what he set out to do so many times. He was considered to be “morbidly obese” with a BMI of 56.6, and was constantly ridiculed for his size. He lived on an Army base in Korea and was constantly tormented by Koreans and Americans alike, being called “fat boy” and feeling constantly dehumanized.
This is when something “clicked” for him. Jon started working out, amidst the jeers from others while he was in the gym about his weight. He pushed out all of the negativity that others handed to him and turned to Youtube, which he says, was his greatest source of inspiration. He kept a video diary where he recounted to the internet all of his successes, and even all of his failures. Slowly, the support began pouring in from family, neighbors, and even complete strangers.
As the support continued to roll in, the weight continued to fall off. Jon took pictures every step of the way and made videos so he could see the progress. Overall, he lost 175 pounds in just about 2 ½ years due to diet and exercise. He then, went above and beyond his weight loss journey and began to do strength training, adding tons of lean muscle to his new physique. Just looking at Jon’s photos and videos is a reminder that you can do anything you set your mind to if you work hard!
Jon didn’t let anyone tell him he couldn’t do it and he drowned out all of the people who used to make him feel like he wasn’t good enough by doing something amazing for himself. His transformation was so motivating and inspiring that on an episode of ‘The Doctors’ last year, they offered him free plastic surgery to remove the excess skin he had from his rapid weight loss. Today Jon lives an active lifestyle with plenty of fitness, practicing strength training, macronutrient cycling and intermittent fasting.
Jon has shown, through willpower and determination that your goals are attainable, no matter how insurmountable they may seem. We hope this inspires you to get out there and be your own willpower and brush all the negativity away!
